ok cool as. i was wondering though. that instead of having to change to an XR cluster is it possible to just change the leds. from green to blue.
Im sick of seeing green in the commodore. |

Im sick of seeing green in the commodore. I think Commodore instrument clusters have a green filter behind the numbers. If you change to blue LED's the numbers will come up a murky purple colour. |

i took apart the dash the other day, you cannot change the leds - they are SMD - surface mount components and are not replaceable, so its not as easy as changing the globes!

I know it's a really late reply but I have changed the LED's on my Fairmont dash. I picked up a FPV dash cluster with blue lighting. Later I also managed to score a colour LCD premium system. Since I then had a spare circuit board I sent it off to an electronics guy who replaced the LED's (surface mounted).
The LED's are EXPENSIVE ($4.95 each or $2.95 for 25-100). You will need 29 for the Fairmont centre console and another 19 for the dash. Add another 5 if you want the clock done as well. Pluss the $100 for the guy who did the work. Surface mounted LED's are VERY specialised. Don't just take to them with a soldering iron or you will destroy them. If anyone is interested I can give the contact details for the guy in Newcastle who did the mod for me, but any Micro conponent electrician will know the right way to mount them. If anyone is interested I now have a white Fairmont Presteige system for sale. Guaranteed to work if picked up (Will not post. Courier only. Will cost $40.00 to have it installed and reprogrammed by Ford). Great for anyone who has one on the blink and their car is out of warranty..... Expensive exercise, but it looks awesome with the DVD mod as well! |

Hi everyone,
Have now updated my gallery to include shots of the blue LED conversion. The photo's don't do it justice as I had to use my video camera. It now gets the WOW factor from everyone at night, and I even get comments to roll down the window at traffic lights from people in the car next to me so they can have a look! Makes the cabin a pleasure to be in at night. |

My TX Territory glows a red/orange colour ... damn bright as well. I don't mind it actually.
