After getting a terrible whining noise from the bum of my car a couple of weeks ago, I replaced both bearings and prayed that would get rid of the noise....no good. Still there, not as loud...but deffinetly still there. Now unfortunatly...it's diff replacement time. This is one part of the car which I've never really learnt too much about. Please help. I would like to convert to LSD for obvious reasons. I have an 96 EFII with ABS. Now what ratio should I go for, is it possible for an LSD conversion and finaly the most important part... price, realistically how much can I expect to be paying for 2nd hand or reco change over? The engine is stock... with intentions to be adding extractors..maybe new cam? I would love to gain a bit of low down pickup since I have an auto. Thanks for your help in advance.

Using your diff housing as is, you can get a LSD centre carrier bearings, new pinion bearing and colar(you have to crush that) for a little over $1,000 to suit any ratio, just goto a coventrys or wat ever. Keeping in mind you still require the tools and the know how. Its best to do this kind of work on the hoist, its next to impossible to go it jacked up off the ground as you need a long bar on the pinion nut to tighten it, we are talking 2m bar to crush her. Its best to take it to a diff/gearbox specialist place they will probably charge you 300 labour or something, but atleast you know its done right, and you have a warranty to fall back on if not.
