My best mate has an AU Fairlane SII. He has finally decided it needs to have some coin spent on it, While he is not intending to change heads, What heads will be on it?

E7's or GT40's? or something else. it is stock.

He has his mind set on exhaust, extractors and a tune. I think a tune will wake it up a bit and that has been my recommendation to him, I am thinking a 2½" mandrel system some decent cats, but what extractors?

He has a budget of about $2500, will this suffice for what he is thinking of doing?

It will have GT40P's. As for headers, go for standard T Series ceramic coated gear with new cats (note, Pacemakers and the like produce minimal gains for big money. It's just convenient that I have a set of T Series headers that are F/S). Cat back go for a twin 2.5" press bent, 2.25" Mandrell or a Mandrell bent 3" single. $2500 will do exhaust, but not tune if you want to use an XFlash3.

A reprofiled cam is a great budget upgrade - I get them done for NZ$150. The cam in the XR8 220kW Tickford 5.0 is a reprofiled version of the exact same explorer cam that's inside your mates 5.0 Fairlane. I actually go a little bigger than the 220kW cam - around 215° at 050 on 114-115 lobe separation. Expect about 20kW from this. Very cheap HP.

He does not have the skills or inclination to do a cam, I've been pushing him to do a cam or mild stroker but he always backed down. I figure if I can get him to do complete exhaust it may inspire him to get more involved. How much you looking for for the extractors?

Dave, I'm after around $150 for the extractors. Hold out until September and I can deliver them (driving to Melbourne, leave Brisbane Sep 1). They currently have stock cats on them.

Either get the T series headers & chop them where the 4 primary pipes merge, have an exhaust shop weld on a 2.5 or 3" pipe & a pair of high flow cats. Alternatively get the Hurricane headers from Liverpool Exhausts, they consistantly make the best torque & mid range power of all the headers on the market for the AU 5.0

My headers have 2.5" inlets to the stock cats that appears to be done after ceramic coating. The car they came off had Herrod mods.
