He may or may not make the chase this year but I reckon he'll be a consistant winner next year.
The guys living the dream, the dream that d**k Johnson started back in the mid 80's, and he's doing well.
I always said to myself, if he wins a race in the sprint cup. The AU will cop a replica Ambrose paint job.

I love NASCAR! I haven't been keeping up with it this season, my internet at home has been a little dodgy... gotta love sky

I'm actually trying to find some sort of experience now to do some nascar driving. Surprisingly not easy to find in the UK!! Does anybody know of anywhere that do this? I've found plenty for supercars and stuff... If i find anything i'll let you guys know :mrgreen:

Many of the big teams have "drive a nascar" days much like our V8 race experiences. Petty, Gibbs, Roush Fenway and all the big hitters. On top of that they have schools where you learn to drive a nascar if you are really cashed up and keen.

In Australia Marshal Brewer used to have a Nascar and Auscar school in the mid to late 90's operating out of Bob Janes Goodyear Thunderdome.

Is there a UK Nascar Series at all? I think its all super tourers and European Kraut DTM racing. Best to take a holiday on the other side of the Atlantic and spend some time in North Carolina with the good ol boys.

Also on another note the first road course of the season has been run and won. Unfurtunately Ambrose didn't win, Kurt Busch did. Ambrose ended up in 5th. His first top 5 since his two 3rd places finishes at Dover and the allstar shootout earlier this year. It was a cracker of a race with passing and carnage galore. Tony stewart got the mother of all love taps leaving him suspended on the safety barrier, montoya got hit and hit back and most of the cars look like they came out of a demo derby by the end of it. Infineon sure does look like a challenging track.


After a few dud rounds at Kansas, Pocono and Michigan, Ambrose is starting to find his stride again.

Lets hope that it culminates in a win or 2 before the chase starts and hopefully he'll be granted a wildcard entry into the chase for the championship.

Yeah I might just have to take a holiday, this is the best company I found for a {DESCRIPTION} in the UK (link is in the name) but they don't have any NASCAR, apparently they used to - I spoke to a chap on the phone, didn't ask much more about it but they said they are looking in to finding a new NASCAR driving experience

Know of any NASCAR companies near you? whats their site :) I'm not looking to go until next year anyway but it pays to be prepared!!

No Nascar in Australia either unfortunately. The cars that used to race in the 1990's are all museum pieces now stashed away in the back of someones shed. Having said that I woouldn't mind buying one of Terry Wyhoon's BP ford thunderbirds as a rich mans collectors item or play toy.

Anyhow did anyone watch the coke zero 400 night race at Daytona over the weekend? Ambrose and Allmendinger were the fastest 2 car draft during practice. Qualifying saw Almendinger in 9th and Ambrose in 15th.

I only got to see the last 1/2 hour of the race. f**k TNT's commentary sucks big time. Yes Kyle Petty is a legend but f**k hell 30 seconds of racing and 5 minutes of adds just doesn't cut it. Ship him over to Speed and he can join good ol Darryl Waltrip with his Boggity Boogity Boogity enthusiasm. They'd make a great pairing, and we'd get 10-15 mins of racing and 2-3 mins of ads, not to mention victory celebrations in their entirety (unless one HD or your international licensed broadcaster decided to cut things short if things run over time).

Anyway, I don't know what happened but Allmendinger finished 10th and Ambrose in 17th. I find it a shocker considering he was in most peoples top 3 to win the race after the one and only practise session.

Next weekend they go to Kentucky for yet another Saturday night race (Sunday morning our time). Can't wait.

On a side note V8 supercars are racing in the US in the 2013 season. Apparently it will be the same as the international event on the gold coast. Would be good to see Ambrose back in a falcon.

ah bummer, I've always wanted to go to Austrailia, definitely on the top of my list - just so difficult being that it is the extreme furthest away (unless you count the north pole), could go to Germany & France for the same cost! Forgetting NASCAR for a mo - if you could do anything anywhere, that you've seen what would it be? I need some new ideas for my next venture :)

Ambrose's crew let him down big time this weekend and he drove his a*** off to come from 31st to 9th after earlier leading the race. That's the second time this season he's had to pit again for a loose wheel whilst in a commanding position. Tod Parrot? Nah more like Todd the Gallah.

Well he finally did it. First Australian to win in the Nascar premier class with his magestic win at Watkins glen today.

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- Marcos Ambrose passed Brad Keselowski on the first lap of a green-white-checkered finish at Watkins Glen and won Monday's rain-delayed Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen under caution when a violent multi-car wreck exploded behind him on the final circuit.

Ambrose, who charged through the bus stop (inner loop) and powered past Keselowski to the inside, became the fifth first-time winner in the Sprint Cup Series this year.

I'm pleased we did it clean, but I was going to get to Victory Lane. I wasn't going to let that 2 [Keselowski] beat me to the checkered flag.

Keselowski was second when the yellow flag froze the field. Kyle Busch, who lost the lead on the final restart on Lap 91 of 92, came home third, followed by Martin Truex Jr. and Joey Logano.

Kevin Harvick, Juan Montoya, A.J. Allmendinger, Jeff Burton and Jimmie Johnson completed the top 10.

"I've fought so much to get here, to finally win and be here in Victory Lane is a dream come true," said Ambrose, who made the most of his vaunted road-racing skills on Monday. "I flew the kids home [Sunday, when the race was postponed] -- it was their first day of school -- and this kind of makes up for it.

"To win in the Cup series is an incredible feeling, and I'm very, very proud."

Ambrose, 34, who moved his family from Australia to pursue a career in NASCAR, was making his 105th Cup start. He has three wins, all at Watkins Glen, in 74 Nationwide starts.

The victory also was Richard Petty Motorsports' first since Kasey Kahne won on the road course of Infineon Raceway in 2009. It was Ford's first win at The Glen since 1996 (Geoffrey Bodine).

Ambrose became the third qualifier for the Sprint Summer Showdown, joining Keselowski and Paul Menard. Those three drivers, plus the winners from upcoming races at Michigan and Bristol, will compete for an aggregate $3 million bonus, should one of the eligible drivers win Sept. 4 at Atlanta.

After restarting fourth on Lap 70, Ambrose dispatched Truex for third place on Lap 73 and outbraked Keselowski into Turn 1 for the second spot on Lap 76. From that point Ambrose trimmed Busch's lead from more than two seconds to two car lengths before Menards's fiery wreck on Lap 86 caused the fourth caution of the race.

"I was trying to pass the 18 [Busch] before the caution came out and really used my stuff up," Ambrose said. "I didn't want to start on the outside [on the final restart], so I actually gave up the start trying to get to the inside, but when I realized that wasn't going to work, I just turned up into Turn 1 and tried to make something happen.

"I spoke to Brad Keselowski last night. We had a chat for about a half-hour, just shooting the breeze and talking about how hard it is to get to Victory Lane -- and there I was racing him for the win. I'm pleased we did it clean, but I was going to get to Victory Lane. I wasn't going to let that 2 [Keselowski] beat me to the checkered flag."

Kurt Busch, who entered the race fourth in the Cup standings, had a rough afternoon. After spinning in the inner loop on Lap 4 and losing a lap, Busch knocked Allmendinger out of the lead and off the race track on Lap 9.

Busch's frustrating day came to an end on Lap 49, when a brake failure sent him hard into the tire barrier in Turn 5.

"I had a big problem getting into the braking zones today -- just rear brakes locking up," Busch said after the crash. "I had to crank eight rounds of front brake into our [car] just to survive. All that does is generate brake heat, and I blew out the left-front tire.

"It was a bummer of a day and not anything that we expected. It must have been something with the brake package. Whatever Keselowski found at Road Atlanta [during his Aug. 3 testing accident], I had a problem with today."

As hard as Busch's wreck was, it paled in comparison to the hit Denny Hamlin took in Turn 1 when his brakes failed on Lap 65. Hamlin rocketed into the wall, destroying the front of his No. 11 Toyota.

"Something blew out in the left front," Hamlin said after being released from the infield care center. "When it did, it must have cut a brake line, so I had no brakes. I was trying to do everything I could to weave or anything I could to get the speed down in the car.

"There was just nothing you could do. The front tires locked up, and you can't steer."

Hamlin finished 36th and fell to 12th in the standings, 33 points behind 10th-place Tony Stewart, who lost a spot to Dale Earnhardt Jr. (15th Monday). Clint Bowyer finished 11th and moved past Hamlin into 11th, 25 points behind Stewart.
