Hey all, ive just noticed this, it started last week.
When i put my foot on the brakes or indicate, the stereo will turn off and then on, also the dash lights will flicker and the revs will rise. This will only happen when i use the indicator or brakes. Does anyone have any idea what this is caused from? |

1) Check Earths Main from battery to engine block and battery to body.
2) Check your rear brake double filament bulbs have shorted out eq. Tail lamp filament touching brake filament. 3) Check trailer wiring and plug for corrossion if fitted to vehicle.

What he means is that there is most likely a short circuit or earth of a wire in the region of the brake lights. This is the simplest thing to check, and after you have ruled out that there is no error in the bulb regions wiring then you'll need a multimeter and some sort of electrical knowledge...
You see - What he thinks is happening ---- When you put your foot on the brake it connects 12V from the battery (via the dashboard and the pedal) to the brake lights. If the wiring in the brake lights has developed a fault it could be sending electricity to other circuits which get confused by the 12v and end up doing things that are contrary to what you have told them to do. Most likely in this case would be the trailer connector wiring. If, for instance, the indicator wires are touching the brake then when you apply brakes the indicator will turn on (and visa versa sometimes...) As a weird example of this- When I put one particular trailer on my car I had the rather odd combination of headlights going on when indicating or something like that. And that was caused by a fault in the trailer ----- The indicator wires were connecting to the TAIL LIGHT so that when the indicator went on, the tail light would turn on.... You see, the TAIL LIGHT is also part of the head light circuit and when you turn the lights on, the tail lights come on..... (bulbs contain filament, as do fuses - filament is basically a name for a thin wire in car terms...) |
