ok, so i had my thermostat replaced last week as it was stuffed, coolant was leaking from the housing and sprayed everywhere, the car never overheated or got hot when this happened. i got it all fixed and my mechanic pressure tested everything and it all showed fine.
today i had a look at the car and see ive got a coolant leak running down the block, underneath the extractors so i take it back to him, and he pressure tests again, and everything shows fine? car is still not getting hot, and not using oil, at this stage he has suggested using an addictive to try seal the leak, i trust him as he has never steered me wrong in the 6 years ive taken my car there, basically im after suggestions, prices and opinions on what to do next, anyone used a sealant like this before? the car is a 95 ef 6 with 185000 on the clock, thanks in advance

the fact that you got no other symptons i just wonder whether it might be just a water pump oring.
And the stains are just a result of drive belt and fans blowing it back

Sounds like the same issue I had, in my build thread

Cargo Seal Up is what he should be using. Don't use chemiweld..

Also much to my shock, ground black pepper works

My car has the seal up done to it and pepper in it to fill any gaps should they arise

did you repair the gasket or still using this method?

ive been running my car with seal up in it for about 3000 kms and it hasent lost a drop of water since 5 minutes after i put the stuff in and ran it through the cooling system, but thats because ive bought another car and dont plan on fixing this one properly as the body is stuffed on the car and its done 353000 kms

when i bought my car last year i had a mechanic check it out and he found there was evidence of a head gasket leak on the passenger side of the block. He said it was very small and looked like it hadnt leaked in some time. I took a gamble and bought the car and 60,000kms (230,000kms) later have still not had a problem and have driven the thing from melbourne to brisbane in 40 degree heat. The limited history on the car showed the headgasket had not been replaced and the likely cause of the leak was when the car overheated due to radiator failure after which the radiator was replaced.

I guess when deciding what to do it depends on how bad the leak is. If you just use a sealer always keep an eye on temp as the gasket is most probably weaker.

at this stage im going to use the sealant, and keep driving, once it gets to the point of needing to be replaced, im considering an au engine transplant, so im not willing to fork out big dollars on a motor i dont plan on using much longer

I had the same issue as uniacidz.
It just leaks down the block with no symptions. Id fix it before it starts leaking into the piston .
Even though sealant stuff will stop it what's to say it could leak at the next thin part of the gasket .
But if you don't have time etc to fix it sealant will do.

Took me 2 days to fix mine and $300 .

Where it was leaking my gasket was like 0.5mm thin

The gasket was f**k when I took it off . Why ford used it I have no idea.
Half the gasket was stuck to the block . Scraping it all of was probably the hardest part lol .
I now have a metal gasket . Which is much better
