The handbrake cable brackets are missing on the ED Diff and will need to be welded on.
You will need to pull the axles and swap the backing plates, calipers and rotors etc. You will need to source ED upper control arms as they are a different length to the EL. So yes it is doable, but not simple by any means. Cheers BenJ

Sorry to hijack your thread here, but would a el diff go into an ea?

Maybe.
The EA upper control arms are narrower than the later models. The real problem is that the EL diffs have two mounting points on the upper bracket, and the EL also uses different length upper control arms depending on if the car is tickford equipped. If it was an EF diff with the same upper mounting location as the EA-ED, then you could just add in some spacers on the diff end of the upper control arms to centre them in the upper diff brackets. If you had to use the shorter std EDl upper control arms, I don't know if they will bolt up to the EA chassis. It will be trial and error. Then you have the same issues with the different brake arrangement and handbrake cable setup. When I put the EF XR6 diff in my EB Sedan, I swapped all of the EB brakes on to the EF, along with the metal brake pipe autocross the diff etc. Again, you will need to pull axels to accomplish this. Good luck Cheers BenJ

The watts linkage mount on the EL diff cover is also lower than the ED. It will change the rear roll centre unless you fit the EL cover to the ED diff.
