Hey guys,
Another little quibble thats been discovered this week. When cold in the morning, Ive got speedo. However at the same time I dont get any kickback on the auto and when slowing it wont go back in gears (ie, come to a stop and its still stuck in 2nd or 3rd). I can manually click it back and that works. After about 5 mins tho, the speedo comes to life and the gearbox it fine. Thoughts?

sounds like a crook speedo transducer/sender unit,
you may be able to get away with pulling the plugs apart and giving them a good spray with wd40/rp7 or crc or maybe go to wreckers and buy a clean newish looking one with no trans fluid coming out the wiring and swap them, should fix the problem they are around $60 new from fords or ebay has them too |

Cheers mate.
Is it hard to get to? I'm guessing the speedo somehow effects the operation of the auto somehow...

jack it up, axles stands under.
its on the passenger side rear of gearbox, you will see it behind the neutral safety/inhibitor switch. the transducer/sender usually has some red shielding over the wires fairly easy to get at, just 1x 8mm bolt holds it in have a clean rag ready if your taking it out, some trans fluid may spill. |

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but does anyone have the part number handy for the speedo sender/transducer?
Cheers, Lurch

Morning people.
Ok... updated. Finally got all the bits together, and replaced the sender unit and the cog. ALso thoroughly cleaned and checked the connections in the 3-pin plug. And.... *drum roll* No change *sigh* Any one got any other idea's?

Solinoids possibly need replaceing. Could be you Autp Computor. 6cyl Auto is controlled by the ECU, V8's have a seperate comp for the auto. While back I had trouble with mine and I think they replaced the s5 solenoid on one of them. Cant remember that far back. |
