damn thing always reads full even after 500+ k's, which wouldnt be a bad thing if the tank stayed full lol
im certain that it might be the sender unit, but before i go buy all the tools and parts to replace it, i wouldn't mind hearing other peoples thoughts on what else it could be, or other things i should check, or if anyone has had a similar problem. ive had the fuel pump replaced about 10 months ago so its basically still new, i don't relish the thought of buying a new pump just because of one little bit of plastic decided to go so if anyone can help me avoid that, it would be great .

Can't see the EL one varying from the ED one too much...
But the ED one is basically a steel arm with a plastic float and it has a wiper on it which runs up and down on a printed circuit board with a big long squiggle of track on it... Maybe if the wiper breaks off the arm the gauge may max out... Maybe... Or maybe if the reference point is lost the gauge may max out... That is if there is an earth on the board... Or maybe the swing arm may just be stuck... I'd be buying the assembly from a wreck and putting you fuel pump in... Can't remember how easily the sender comes off now... :/ Hard to say without having how the circuit works here in from of me... Cheers, Tim

On my EL I had the opposite problem the fuel gauge sat on empty with a full tank. I removed the fuel pump with sender and found the anti syphon tube had fallen into the tank and lodged itself onto the float.
cheers..
