Hi All
My first posting here and hopefully someone can help.. Ford Ef 6 Fairmont. Symptoms: High Fuel usage shows 20litres/100km or so when cruising at 60kmh on trip computer. loses power under load to extent will only do about 30kmh once warmed up. putting foot down causes stumble and backfire through air intake... Starts just fine and idles ok. Problem is intermittent which may point to elec connection- can be going fine one moment and the next goes stupidly..... no power when its playing up.- have checked for air leaks and only found one in intake gasket (which has been fixed) so far i have replaced a) Plugs b) leads c) coil pack d) MAP sensor e) Fuel filter also checked as many electrical connection under hood as i can Any ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance george |

The O2 sensor might be stuffed. Or, as it's only intermittent, the connection to the O2 sensor could be loose. Also, might pay to check the coil pack connection as well, pain in the a** but worth looking at.

check your fuel pump as well. I would think this could contribute, but will not be the source of your issue. Anything done to it lately before it started playing up?
What colour is it?

HI GUYS
How do you test the O2 sensor ? Haven't done anything to it before it started playing up I also tried getting fault codes by bridging pins etc and LED light gizmo on the soket adjacent the fuses This was of no use as the led did not flash , just stayed on .. I assume it would not go into diagnostic mode... tried several times.. Colour of o2 sensor Dark grey not much carbon on it Thanks george |
