Hey guys I just bought an EB II fairmont that's in excellent condition overall.
The problem is the revs climb slow, even when I put the foot to the floor they take like 2 seconds to start climbing and even then they climb slow. More than half the E series I've seen are like this, what's causing it??? It just had a full service and the driveline is mint, possibly a sensor or something??? Throttle body is clean and it eventually does get to 5000rpm so I doubt it's the accelerator cable but I'll check it anyway. |

is it on gas?
exhaust blockage of some sort maybe? blocked cat? blocked fuel filter? lack of servicing?

Hey mate yeah it's dual fuel (far more sluggish than it should be), it has a full service history and out of all my cars has the best driveline I've ever seen, the fluids look as though it's just come out of the factory.
Exhaust/cat is fine, haven't ran it on petrol yet as the fuel pump is dead. I replaced the thermostat and it's improved a lot (and running far warmer as it was sitting on the blue before I replaced it), it's still sluggish but it's actually hitting high RPM now and making power, could be considered a normal slow EB. Just seems weird that a thermostat would fix that??? |

Well turns out the accelerator cable was stretched which fixed most of the problem however it's still extremely slow.
I also can't get it past 4k unless I manually shift and I'm fairly certain it doesn't drop into first when I boot it at 40-50kmph either. Basically when you floor it instead of the revs instantly going to the usual 3000rpm and quickly climbing to 4800-5000rpm. It only goes to 2300rpm and takes forever to climb and even shifts gear before hitting 4000rpm it just doesn't want to make peak power. It's like the power button is off or something I don't get it it's the same symptom as an accelerator cable, but replacing the cable only fixed half the problem.. Could it be a gearbox issue or something along those lines? |

Have you replaced the fuel pump yet too see if you encounter the same problem on petrol.
Have you check your TPS with a multimeter, to see it's within specs.

Definetely fix the pump and try on a clean tank of fuel before you spend money chasing it further.
Should shift 1st>2nd at about 4700rpm even without the power switch holding gears.
