hi all
i got a new el ghia last week , after having her a few days i did the good clean/check over and found a s**t load of rust in the iner sills on both sides covered with black jack it starts just after the front sill to rail panel and goes back bout 1/2 way down the car and in spots has started to eat into the reo panel
i have no body kit
anyone had this problem ?

poor fella. u must be peeved... it is a common spot for any car to rust, but i have personally seen over 10 EA-EL's rusted there...

I too have been gobsmacked by an ef i purchased last year ,rust in the sills , behind tail lights and in front of the rear wheel arches also.Strange not knowing the cars history , i didnt keep it long enough to find any more though..... maybe a suggestion to you too ??

yeah it depends on how well the car was kept, i've even seen cars 2-3 years old with rust, but it's just one of those things that cars get when not treated right/getting to old or something, just get it fixed

but it's good to get a RACV check done on a car before buying it, they normally pick up everything

most prob the climate where the car was maybe somewhere near the coast. Ive never had a problem with cars Rusting Up in central QLD, its good to get into the habit of letting your car dry out after its been raining just open it up and leave it out when it becomes sunny again

Yeah my EF has a small rust hole in teh passenger side sill that you can see if you open the door. I might drill it out, mask a small area around it and spray with etch primer and then put a rubber plug in it. :lol:

well i have checked it all over the only rust is in sill thank god :) so she has gone in for new sill's both sides not cheap but it's only money :)

$1500 both sides all brass welds wtin weld through sealer ect life time warranty i had to strip all the inside out but to save money

Stripping the inside is so when they do the welding your carpets and seats dont catch fire, thats what the guy told me. How much do you need to strip out?

it all needs to come out the dash can stay but thats bout it , it needs to come out yes cause of fire ect, but also because the sill is joined to the floor and u need it out to cut the sill off the floor pan then rejoin paint ect
