Hey guys just wondering if doing a transmission service was a straight forward job as ive heard its just as easy as changing the oil? just wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how to do it as mine is wellllll wellll overdue haha

easy as, if its an e series you just undo the 10mm bolts i think they are on the pan but because it has no bung to drain it the best way is to undo 1 side and let the oil drain out in one spot, (beware its probably going to be burnt and smell like s**t lol) and then once its fairly drained all of it take the pan off and theres a filter with a bit of wire going accross it, remove this without losing it, pull the filter off and make sure the rubber seal has come out of the hole on the end of the filter otherwise you will have to get it out, then if you dont want to flush it you just smack the new filter in and the piece of wire that holds it, change the pan gasget do all the bolts up on the pan and bobs your uncle top it up

Put in as much oil as you drained out, needs to be to the full mark on the dipstick, Probably START with 2-2.5 Litres, but keep adding fluid until it's up to the right level, buy 4 litres and you'll be pretty safe.

both my ef's had dipsticks, you can fit them to the el trans and probably to the au ba 4speed auto aswell,

Might not need to be said, but make sure you clean any gunk out of the bottom of the pan before you put it back on.
Also be aware that this basic service, while good to do, changes less than half the fluid in the transmission. The fluid sits in a million passages, clutches and gears inside the transmission, and will not drain. If you want a 100% fluid change, you need a full flush by someone with the proper equipment.

thanks guys, mines a 97 el, so theres no dipstick. Where abouts do i refill the tranny fluid, ive never done it before, any pics would be great?

For the ones without dipsticks, there is a filler hole in the side of the transmission, I think it's on the drivers side. the filler spot would be where the dipstick hole is but they would of replaced it with a bung instead
