So after alot of thought I've decided rather then spending money on constantly repairing parts due to age and p plater abuse, i've decided that over time, I'll be better off putting an AU engine into my el, as I've become attached to her and see her as a keeper.
at the moment i have a series of leaks being power steering, unknown coolant loss and something else that i always never get round to seeing what is.
so being that, and a rather low&slow income I'm wanting to start gathering info and have a little knowledge backed up.
things anyone can help me out with is:
-how much i'm looking at for a motor, what motor (i'm guessing atleast series 2)
-a good place for fitting, good job, not too expensive (i know i know, one or the other, lol.)
-how to go modding sump
-manual conversion (2 birds with one stone.)
-the fact i have lpg
-if i get just bare motor, will my a/c, heater, other things go straight on?

anything you can think of would be great, as the way i see it, other than the sump and the little things with manual (ecu, pedal box)
it should all be fairly easy.

anyone with experience wanna give me a rough idea of what final price would be like?
thanks alt.

Some things i did when putting the au in the EF
ford-4l-and-6-cylinder-f1/au-sump-mod-for-e-series-t79648.html?hilit=au%20sump%20mod
^the sump mod
cost me $120 for the aluminium and to get it welded, i cut the sump and made the plate myself.

mine was already a manual so im not too sure what you will need for that but i think you will need an EF manual ecu so you dont have to do alot of mucking around

you will have to put the el bbm on the au engine because the maf connects differently
and also you will have to change the thermostat house as the el temp sensor is connected to that, the AU's is in the back of the engine

A/C will fit straight on (for me anyway some people reckon you have to but i didn't)

the alternator mounts differently so you will need an au alternator (preferably series 2? as they have the same plug as el if im not mistaken?) if not can someone correct me :)

also a non vct engine as its less mucking around with the vct unit

cheers for the info mate, sounds pretty straight forward, better than i expected with the smaller things, shattered though as i've just forked out for a new alternator too.
you do your swap yourself? or have it done?

wouldn't happen to know if my cruise control would still be fine if i was to go manual?
like as long as i'm in the right gearmm as it just controls throttle yeah?

wild-el recons he only paid $1100 including supply, which considering i've got time to save, it's affordable.
gonna have the sump modded myself so that'll save a few doing that.
rather keen now and after driving a manual mazda 3 before, keen on a t5 to bang through the gears, whats the go with a t5 on a au motor rather then el? no difference or?

cheers.

i'm too keen for a manual i think i'll leave the motor swap for another time pondering, t5 conversion is where it's at, once i get the suspension and handbrake sorted, my funds will be heading that direction.

I reckon you shouldn't bother with an AU motor, go for a BA motor.

They've got a stronger head and more power.

I went to Owen from TJR Motors in Selby, it took him under 2 weeks to do a manual conversion and the BA motor into my EF. Total cost - $4,750.

Stronger head?

All those SOHC heads must bend in half or something.

Stick with the SOHC motor unless you stick a turbo BA motor in. $5k for an extra 20-30kw is pretty crap value for money.

yeah seeing as money is really the main reason why i haven't already put another motor in, i don't think i'll be going to that much effort, especially when a couple grand more see's me the car to go with the motor, no need for engineers cert then. :)
but thanks anyway, currently working my way to a suspension upgrade, then wait til whatever dies first, being the auto or the motor, and move up from there, gives me more time and money to be a bit pickier about what i choose.
thanks though, and any help, suggestions & opinions are all welcomed.
