Just got diagnosed with a cracked diff bush - what will this mean?

I had no noticeable symptom or problem - Ford just pointed it out when they looked at my car yesterday (and fixed a front brake problem)

What could happen if I don't get this addressed?

There are 3 bushes in the back that give trouble on BA's. One is a centre diff bush and there are 2 outer ones that give trouble. If you get too much movement in the bushes you stand have problems that will cost big money to fix.
If it IS the centre one you will be looking at about $500.00 to fix as the rear suspension cradle will need to be removed to get the bush out. The centre bush will cost you about $80.00.

1Rik_Biel I suggest, that if you are going to replace ALL the bushes in the diff, then take the time and cost to fit higher quality bushes-ie nolathane.

Thanks all - yes - they did say they would replace all three at once if they were doing it.

Do Ford OEM nolathene versions or will I need to source and supply these to them to use?

ford oem ones are made of crap soft rubber.
made soft to reduce driveline "clunk". and therefore has a short lifespan and crap emself real quik.
most shops that replace the bushs offer a higher quality and stronger replacement for only a few dollars more.

i think the oem bush was $80 and this fancy never break one was $120. somthin like that.

not sure on fittin cost but as it requires the IRS cradle to be dropped i think its a few hours work. couple hundred i suppose.. give em a ring n find out.
WA diff centre : 9314 2303.

Spoke to Kevin at WA Diff Centre - very helpful guy

Due top the cradle drop etc it's a big job - prob $875

He'd inspect it first to see if it really needed doing given I have had no symptoms.

mm sounds a bit pricey. but yea its a bit of a job.
have you rang anywer else?
when wa diff centre done my diff it was about $450 to swap over.. considering a diff swap involves a bit more i didnt think it would be that much..

get on ford's back and whinge that they made such a big phukup and to chime in half the cost

fords have had these common problems with each model (headgaskets/diff bushes/paintjobs) and yet everyone takes it up the a*** and continues to support dodgy aussie engineering
