I've tipped the weigh bridge at 3.5t at the tip with only my 6x4 trailer on the back of the Ghia, 5spd. Unbraked trailer. It had about 1.7t on it....
I have also had a 2t lathe on a tandem pulled behind the Ghia as well, but that's a braked trailer. With the trailer i had over 2.5t on the back, would have hit the weight bridge well over 4t that day lol. Poor 5 spd! Cheers ToranaGuy

Wasn't uncommon for our old au ute to go 4.5t-5t on the weigh bridge at the tip.

Cheers ToranaGuy no wonder the damn thing broke! lol poor t5 It probably has a lot to do with the excessive wear on the input shaft bearings & the input shaft itself lol. I also regularly towed full size car's on hire trailers, so probably around the 2t to 2200kg range too. Cheers ToranaGuy

XC V8 Fairmont with a standard tow bar.
Car trailer loaded with a heap of timber. Started 30km south of Cairns and could not go faster than 80kmh. The trailer was so over loaded that it got speed wobbles if I went faster. Got into Cairns, hooked the trailer up to the tip truck and watched the trailer go side to side in the mirrors of the truck for the next 40km north of Cairns at 95kmh. How much was on the trailer? No idea, but the car trailer was way overloaded.....

My ute used to tow around an off road racer on a trailer that weighed well over a tonne. The racer weighed nearly 2 tonnes. Plus nearly a tonne of weight in the tray. XR6 with sports suspension, basic tow pack and no trans cooler for the win! hehe
Mostly highway kms though alot of them all over the countryside. Wouldn't do it to the 5speed now though i don't think, it's having enough dramas of it's own lol

Just wondering if anyone tows more and how they seem to handle it? was that with the 2300kg towbar? No, mines only for the 1.6t tow bar on it. Only major difference is another brace and mounting point I think? 2.3t tow bars are a bit hard to come by in New Zealand. Unless you want to pay hundreds for them. |

Just wondering if anyone tows more and how they seem to handle it? WTF? Pretty sure max tow capacity is like 1.6T. I've towed a boat...not sure how heavy it is, maybe 750-1000kg? no worries...except brakes Max tow capacity for my tow bar is 1.6t, there is a 2.3t tow bar but the only difference is there is another brace. I tow 1.5 ton regularly with no brakes and I've never had any issues with brake fade.... |
