Ok guys, as many of you know, I have been playing in I6 land for a long time, being such, my toolbox is targeted towards all things I6/Metric. I have complete sets of sockets in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2" stuff, ring spanners, ratchet spanners, screwdrivers, torque wrenches yadda yadda..
My question is, what tools would I need to be looking to aquire that are specific to the 8's? I don't want to star doing something to discover it does not exist in the cabinet. My tool box is HEAVILY focused on all things metric. There is the usual Torx gear there as well. And some big a** hammers incase TerroristGhia wants to come around and work on his car. All my tools are hand no air tools yet. I have no real aspiration of air tools just yet as I have survived long enough without a compressor.

Mainly imperial stuff for the motor. Pretty much everything else can be fudged around.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around! |

Thats what I was figuring. 99% of what I currently have will be relevent, Just another excuse to aquire more tools. Toolsunlimited has a bunch of Koken stuff that I want and the prices are good right now. Might have to get a few "extra" bit as well. What the wife doesn't know.....

I know where you're coming from this is my first 6,
I only bought it because it went for a song, it was super clean and 700 bucks, some guy had drawn a loan on it from the cash and trade guy next to my work and defaulted.. Apparently he got jailed or something so the cashies guy just wanted his money back. Im also a convert, i was a Holden guy right up into my mid 30's but the last straw was virtually new VT i purchased 7 months old that had endless electrical problems, diff would lock in reverse and the windscreen fell out lol. oiling problems with the motor etc. So yeah Holden could never work out what to use imperial or metric.. HQ etc are imperial, then the WB arrives which is basically VB in driveline so thats metric but the body is imperial.. As far as the first full Metric car, it really depends if its V6 or V8. Most of the bolts,i would say about 95% on a V8 VN are Metric however, the V6 was still using some Imperial bolts when it was in a VY. So theres some useless information on Holden fasteners, suffice to say i have alot of both sizes. PS: I still have my HQ Ute 355 stroker, monaro front and interior/dash, Supra 5 speed cant sell it its my baby.

torx sockets if the ps pump is the same as if and a puller for the pulley if its the snub type, breaker bars in 3 sizes up to 24 inch and on the big bolt sizes, impact sockets as they wont round or split, the torx allen keys you should have already.my sockets go to 36mm 1\2 drive, then 36-65mm 3\4 drive and impact guns-not a ford.

Thanks guys, I have a full complement of everything, doubles, even triples of some stuff. ie 2 torque wrenches, 3 sets of 1/2" drive sockets and a bullion extensions in anything from 1/4" to 1/2" male and female torx.
So, I will be making sure I aquire a whole raft of imperial sockets, I love the buying tools thing actually, the watching the cash exit the bank account thing though... not so good to watch. as I am only buying sockets, preferably socket rail sets, it will keep the cost down a bit as I don't need any more ratchets, breaker bars or extenisions. Time to punish the total tools account! or maybe VEK, just see who has what I want.

Modulars are metric so you'll need both if you want to work on all of them.

What does everyone use to get the spark plugs out?? The weird angled plugs make me want to pull my hair out.
Admittedly my collection of tools is no-where near as comprehensive as some of yours.
