In the process of fabricating a manifold for my AU2. Just interested in thoughts, criticisms, & valuble input regarding design. Here's the basic layout I have in mind. Excuse schitt pics, will have better ones later but you get the idea.
Attachment: Attachment: Built from 40nb carbon steel steam fittings, the short pieces of pipe from no1 obviously represent a single piece. Plan on following this ba low mount style log design to make things more subtle and possibly maybe make ba parts interchangable, ie heatshields and piping. Also to stop my brakes and radiator overflow from melting, give a stockish look & finally the radial offset makes head studs more accessible. The other reason for fabbing my own was to run an external gate. Since I've found out ba manifolds are cast steel i'm fair kicking myself I bought steam fittings instead of a ba log now though it's too late to turn back lol. This design welded appropriately shall see me 50 years of service which should see a few bottom ends out for me and many others. At first I was a little hesitant that 40nb might be a little big since looking at the 94AB head I intend to use utilises 35mm exhuast ports. Upon further pondering I've decided that with a little porting to say 38mm this will leave a small step to stop cylinder reversion created by the log design itself. (True/False?) I'm yet undecided whether to go to the trouble of fitting bigger valves. I'm a Newb at the forced workshop but would like a little insight. I also plan on raising the 'bridge' between the 2 cylinders I plan on mounting the T3 flange (on the same plane as the head flange). cylinders 3 & 4 at the moment. Hopefully creating a slightly lower pressure area at the turbine inlet for the gas to head to without causing too much turbulence. (again True/False?) Thanks for useful advice in advance.

Your thinking too much into it..A good basic design will do the job...
I figure your after 350 / 400 rwkw ??? You'll be fine!! I assume the turbo flange is going in the centre?? The centre section of the log can be a larger size to prevent too much heat build up which plays havoc on centre rotating assembly on turbo.. Especially with conservative tune...

Looks good mate I just made my manifold it's a log type and should be the goods when the motor goes in. You can check out my EB turbo build. Personally I'd fit bigger valves too I just did mine the aid in turbo spool up time, if your keen chuck in crow cam valve springs to and run an AU metal head gasket.

Thinking too much into things is normal for me. Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance, the 6 P's I'm well aware of the law of diminishing returns, which is why if I was paying for labour or machine time with this project it would have fizzed out long ago. Also the reason I'm not going tuned length.
Welding Carbon steel to cast iron in a dynamic heat enviroment doesn't sit well with me. Not to say it won't work and serve it's purpose well, for a while. Even completely sealing it under pressure would be a mission. Being a Boilermaker this will more than likely be the highest quality part of my build lol. I'd be happy to have mine X-ray'd. Steam pipelines/vessels that are welded according to AS1796 are generally given a 50 year life span. I wish I had a setup like that jimbobeb, unfortunately for the price of short motors I reckon I could turn a fair few inside out for what it would cost me for something bulletproof. By then I'll either be over it, or committed to a better setup. I'm also making a log like that for my brothers diesel hilux.. Awesome, just need about 2 weeks to weld it up now... lol Perhaps a little too elaborate but should perform well for a long time.
Do you have a build thread for your 1uz-fe celica ?

That's impressive.
I wish I had the room for an off street toy although something of that calibre would take me more than a lifetime to achieve lol.
