1964 XM Ford Convertible.
This is a genuine Australian built ford XM. It came out of the factory as a 2 door coupe and was later converted. The DPI has confirmed that it is licensed as a convertible and that they hold the engineers certification for the conversion. In the research I have conducted, there are very few of these in Australia. The motor is a 250cc pre-cross flow with a C4 auto and standard diff. Shortly after I bought the car, I stripped it down, had all the paint surfaces sandblasted and gave it a coat of etch primer, followed by some filler, primer, paint and clear coat. Given the age of the car, there was rust, which has been treated, but not removed. The underside has not been blasted or treated. The front passenger's floor is rusted, for which I have a repair panel that has yet to be installed. The chassis is in reasonable condition. The interior is good condition. The original seat frames are in good condition. The cushioning needs to be renewed. The covers are worn, but free of rips or tears. I have installed new carpet and replica door trims. When I stripped the car, the wiring was shot. So i purchased a generic wiring kit from the US and installed it myself. Suffice to say, my automotive wiring skills are much better than my spray painting skills. The convertible top is a canvas cover attached by push-button clips and supported by 2 bars. It is relatively easy to remove and put back on the car and can be easily stored in the boot when not in use. There are plenty of spare parts to accompany the car including: front brake/suspension setup to convert to disc brakes, steering box, spare instrument cluster, heater unit and various other parts. The car has been sitting in my carport for the past 4 years, where it stays out of the sun and rain. The car runs, although is in need of a good service. The car is licensed and runs, but is not in a state where it could be driven it on the road. Genuine buyers only. Please don’t waste my time if you’re not interested in buying. I am not sure what it is worth, but I would think around $9,000 to $10,000. I am open to reasonable offers. REDUCED TO $8,000, but open to reasonable offers.
