Hi guys,I'm just looking for some help with my Ef fairmont. So basically about a yr ago it started going thru coolant like crazy(3 liters every few days) then it started overheating everytime I drove it for more then an hour. So I put straight tap water in it instead an it stopped overheating. But still leaked. Now I've had it pressure tested by 3 mechanics and they can't find a problem. Think they must think I'm just an insane housewife. Lol. I've seen it leak from the left and right sides and I'm not over filling it. I need to get it fixed asap as i cant fill it up every hour or two if I have to go for a long drive. Anyone have any ideas about what it could be?

When was the last time you replaced your radiator cap?

I have a spare overflow bottle and cap if you want to swap yours for mine? It was working perfectly, I know it holds pressure, but for a few bucks a new cap will be the first thing I would throw on, where do you see it leaking whenit happens? Exhaust side? Intake side? Around the radiator? Near the overflow bottle, near the brake booster?

I've got a new overflow bottle ready to be put on. But I'll get a new cap too. It leaks out the bottom, can't see exactly where but it does it on both sides. Doesnt appear to be directly from the radiator. Everytime they've pressure tested it,it's been fine. It's driving me nuts!!!

could also be the end tanks on the radiator are split but are only opening up when its hot.
Its easy enough to put another radiator in there.for the $120 it costs for a new one, I would be doing that as well. I'd also find a different mechanic. there could be a multitude of contibuting factors, water pump may be on its last legs, thermostat could be shot, end tanks could be split, hose could be perished, radiator cap spring could be shot. Lots of possible stuff to look at. start with the bottle and cap, then go from there.

I was thinking about grabbing a cheap second hand radiator and seeing if that works, then buy a new one if that turns out to be the problem. Trying to find a new mechanic, but there's only one decent one up here and even he can't find a fault. Thanks for ur help. I'll start trying to eliminate problems
