Hi all,
Can anyone tell me markings to look for to identify the manual transmission in my AU1 V8 commercial ute ? To date Ive found internet spec wrong... for my ute was meant to have E7 heads, but turned out to have GT40P heads, 19lb injectors turned out to be 24lb and the 3.08 diff ratio has turned out to be 3.45:1. Reason now why iam looking at transmission, for when i power shift into 2nd my syncro crunches, so i am looking to rebuild, re buy or upgrade

Not sure who mislead you into thinking an AU (regardless of year/model) would have E7's? All AU's had GT40p's.
Unlikely your gearbox would be anything but a AU V8 box. I6 boxes wont bolt to a windsor, and E series shifter position is too short for AU.

Mal Wood have AU V8 gearboxes in stock, give them a call. I don't know where you got E7 heads on an AU from, they all got GT40P's. AU1 was hit or miss with injectors, my August 98 build AU XR8 had 19lb injectors fitted.

Reason being - if so, may consider just a rebuild of syncro.

If it's the original box, only 220kw series 2/3 XR8's got the T5z.

Thanks for that, it's was the information I needed to know.
I can get a T5z import for $1600 new from the states, though I will check with local driveline team on how much to rebuild current box. No more information required, please consider this thread closed.

It's been a number of years since I was researching this for my manual conversion (which never went ahead) so please excuse my scratchy memory, but there was some part you could add to your T5 to help it stop flexing under high torque in 3rd gear (which is what kills them). I forget the part's name that I'm referring to (some sort of retainer i think?), but I believe this would make it stronger than a T5z if you fit this with the rebuild.
I'll wait for the other guys on here to confirm.

Cheers and thanks for that... and i will mention it to the driveline guy on rebuild.
Also - I want to stick with the T5 and save $$$. I know the TKO 600 is a way better box but its around $6k installed.
