Hi everyone.
My brother in law has done a engine on a AU ford falcon. He has taken a motor out of a wrecked EL Ford and put it in the AU. Evrything went fine........until it came to the wiring. What kinda mod does he have to do to make it fit onto the EL motor? He asked me to go on the net to find a wiring loom diagram, but I cant find nothing. Any help or suggestions will be very greatful. Thank you in advance. |

Your brother in law in not real bright is he.
1) EL is dizzy, AU is coil pack. AU crank sensor is mounted in the timing cover, EL does not have this and the timing covers are different. 2) EL Upper BBM is different to the AU. You will need to fit the AU upper to the EL base or swap the whole BBM over. 3) AU coil pack is mounted on the L/H engine mount. If you used the EL Mounts you will need to change them over. 4) Temp sensor for the AU is in the rear of the head, EL is in the thermostat housing. 5) Knock sensor on the EL is different to the AU. 6) If is is a Series 1 AU, the alternator plug will be different. You will need to do a cut and shut on the plug if this is the case. 7) EL use a 100amp alternator, you will need a 110amp for the coil packs. You can use a EF alternator. If I think of more I will post them up. |

as SWC said... Now the motor is in the car... Pulling the head off to change the timing cover will be fun... Regardless of... You'll need to run to the AU head anyway because of the temp sensor in the back of the head... This is critical because an AU can run with no water... This sensor reads the temp of no 6 when there is no water and turns cylinders off to use them as an air compressor as it gets hot... This feature wont work if you run the temp sensor in the thermo housing...
And then you have all the other minor things to unbolt and change over... Made yourself a hell of a lot of work...

The engine is turning over but doesnt start.
Now just trying to work out how to hook up the dizzy wiring. The EL has 6 wires and the AU has 4, or the other way around. And suggestions of how these will hook up? As it has different colours |

YOU CANNOT USE THE EL DISTRIBUTOR IN AN AU

what you need to do is put the crank angle sensor in from the au motor where the dizzy is supposed to be, better yet give up and install the correct motor

Say he doesnt give up, coz its the only car hes got for him and his family.
The car is a good car, the motor was crap. Not knowing that this was gonna happen. All of your info I have send to him, so I hope this all work. Very greatful for all your comments. |

Yes El has a dizzy... used 6 pins... Also has a coil further back... AU uses 4 pins because it fires a coil pack... No dizzy... no single coil...
AU has a crank angle sensor which is a different timing case... Different balancer and reads the crank pulses off the balancer tone wheel... It has a syncro in the dizzy hole to drive the oil pump and assist with the (injection or spark) which ever it is... Without swapping all these parts over it will not run... It will only ever crank... If you decide to leave the EL motor as is... He'll need to wire in an EL computer... The AU is likely to be a 104 pin computer while the EL is a 60 pin computer... We're all telling you... physically what he has wont work... Cheers, Tim
