Hi All ... I am wanting to run an EF at speedway & will be running EA-ED injection system ( because thats the racing rules) & I want to know of any shorter belts or mods that will allow me not to run without the air con compressor.... sadly I am a signwriter & not a mechanic..I can paint them & get them looking good, sadly I cant make em go fast lol..any help would be most greatly appreciated.
Kind regards Alex |

I'm not sure if they are still available at ford, but the XH ute had another idler pulley fitted in the place of the A/C when it wasnt optioned.

A shorter belt won't do it, as the tensioner gets in the way. You will need an idler pulley in place of the A/C. Alternatively, you could fabricate a bracket to move the top idler pulley to just above and left of where the A/C compressor would normally be. This would clear the tensioner.
As I understand it, the A/C pulley is just freewheeling when the A/C is switched off, so probably doesn't cause much drag anyway. If you want to save the weight, maybe rip the guts out of the compressor, leaving just enough to mount it to the engine and run the pulley in its bearings. Incidentally, if you do have a problem with belt length, Dayco make a huge range of belts in the flat 6-rib style with lengths from 673mm to 2870mm, so there will be something that works: http://www.dayco.com.au/products.aspx?G=910&P=1512
