Hi everyone, I used to float around these forums a fair bit back in the day but decided to hang up my falcon a few years back now and move onto other things, but I never could sell the car I've had since I was 16. Now I've decided to get it back on the road but there are a number of hurdles to that seemingly simple statement. I was wondering if some of you who have been down this road already would help me with what order to tackle things.
I suspect the brakes will need attention, the engine I know requires attention, the wheels are bald and then there's the normal assortment of considerations for roady (windscreen belts blah blah blah). At first I though grab some wheels and tyres, then get it down to a brake place but I think they spew at the idea of having to roll a falcon on and off a lift. So maybe get the motor done first, but without brakes?! How would you go about it?

Matey, my advice would be to make the brakes work FIRST. It's great to get them going but stopping is the secret.

drop another motor in the hole, get the brakes done, then off to the windscreen place for glass. Tyres can pretty much be done at any time during this, just make sure its before you put it on the road.

Yeah brakes first makes the most sense, but do you think I'll cop a bit of s**t from the blokes down there or have to pay a premium because they wont be able to drive it around the shop, they'll have to push it? The simple answer is call em, but at 8:00am, figured I'd ask you lot

It's an XE. As for the condition of the brakes... well (it sounds stupid now, but) I don't know their condition, its been sitting in the one place (in a shed) for about 6 years. With no engine in there the only thing I could tell is if the hand brake works yeah? Since its power assisted brakes wont the pedal just go hard after a few pumps?

You're probably right, I'm only on day 3 of this decision, you know when you have all these plans ahead of you and you're not sure how the f**k its going to plan out. It's a good feeling but I just have to settle down and chip away at it I think, try to take it on all at once and it's not going to happen.
Just spoke to my engine guy and the engine will head off this week to 'just get running', it doesn't need to be a sprinter, just running and no leaks, then we can move into plan b. baby steps.
