Hi all, this seems to be quite a common topic.
I'm stuck. Can't get my head around the wiring. I've got the reverse lights working, but I don't know which wires to connect with the resistors. Do you need to cut and strip the wires to join them? Or can you put them in the plug? Tried a few already but no results yet. Really need to know what colours to connect because I've looked at voxaces guide and a few others and all of the colours they say to join aren't there. Any help would be appreciated. |

get a menual loom and you should be fine

pull back the plastic and look closely at the wires feeding the plug, it will be dirty you should be able to see them.

Will it work?
The gearbox is from an ef. The wires are different aren't they? If it works, where can i get one? I need my car as soon as possible for work |

the easiest way would be a j3 chip. probably work better too

either a chip or manual computer, the chip just goes into the bottom of the computer and cancels out all the s**t that the auto computer does which the manual doesnt need

@Spindrift - i can see all the wires, but the gearbox is from an ef and my car's an el. Don't know which ones to connect?
What's a good price on a J3? |

Don't worry about what gearbox the car came out off...focus on the wiring loom on the EL. The EL wiring on the car should have a square plug and a round plug. Square plug has the neutral and reverse switch. You say you already have the reverse switch done, then the other two wires in that same plug is obviously the neutral switch. You can just short those two wires and the car will think it's in neutral, if you're keen you can connect it to the neutral switch in the manual transmission. The round plug is to trick the ECU that the transmission is at normal operating temperature and in drive. From what I remember, the colours were the same as EF on my car, but not sure if the colours changed between early ELs (Nov 96) to late ELs (97-98). Mine's a Nov 96 EL and between the car and the Gregory's manual, the colours were the same for me. That's why it's always a good idea to have a workshop manual with wiring diagram.

I managed to find a manual el ecu. Engine still won't turn over.
Something's gone wrong somewhere, would anything have gone wrong with the resistor trick? Calling an auto elec tomorrow I need to figure this out asap! |

Have you done the whole smart lock thing with the key? leave the key on full ignition and walk away for roughly an hour i think it is( i just walk away and forget) and it reprograms the smart lock with the ignition
