I am removing the cam angle sensor from an EF 4.0 motor, for installation into an AU motor.
The EF motor is dead due to snapped timing chain.
I have removed the metal bracket that retains the sensor into the block.
I was under the impression that the sensor assembly should just lift out of the block with maybe a little tap or a twist to free it up. The dummy shaft in the AU motor came out easily this way and I thought the EF CAS would be the same.
This one is in there so tight, it will not budge. I have tried levering it out and tapping it to break the seal but nothing is working. Am I missing something?

Maybe there is Silastic under there or something. The timing cover was slathered in that crap...

possibly the aux gear is jamming it in place, if the chain has failed then it could be causing it all to bind up.

Do you have access to the Aux gear to see if it is free¿

I am now able to rotate the CAS assembly slightly by tapping it with a screwdriver and hammer, and I've applied some WD-40 to see if it will penetrate and free up. It's still unable to be moved by hand.
This is p***ing me off now.
How do you get access to the aux gear?

Timing cover off. Sorry when you said the timing was covered in silastik, I just assumed you had removed it.

Yeah, ok. Haven't bothered removing the timing cover. Since everything in this engine appears to be f**k, I think I'll just find a CAS from somewhere else :(
