Ok so i have been self diagnosing problems on my car for as long as i have had it and been able to fix it.
The car is a 95 EF v8 The problem im having at the moment is that the car shudders under acceleration, seems straight forward but it also does it in neutral, at idle it seems more or less fine but as soon as you touch the pedal it vibrates and starts shuddering over 1200-1500 rpm. I thought it might be the spark plugs so i took it around the block and got some fuel last night and today i decided to pull all the plugs out and clean them up. They all seemed fine with no black fowling or anything, just more of a white colour but no build up of anything really so i cleaned the contact points, cleaned the dizzy points and un plugged all the leads and plugged back in again. but the problem persists. within the last year or so i have replaced the coil, the distributor(new rotor and cover), ignition module and MAF sensor so i doubt its any of those. any ideas? Cheers, Ben |

I'd say buggered balancer.

Is the car running on 6 or 7 cylinders? unplug each injector one at a time (or a spark plug lead if you are willing to risk getting zapped, use pliers) and see if it changes.

Well.
Changed all the leads and the spark plugs as the plugs had worn down and one of the leads was a bit d**k... but the problem is still there It has a noticeable shake at idle ive noticed now and is definitely worse in a certain range. Going to get it on a hoist tomorrow and check the engine mounts. |

Look at the balancer as XR9UTE suggested. Very likely it is stuffed. No point asking for advice if you don't follow it....

Well XR9UTE was spot on the money! thanks heaps for your input guys
Got it on the hoist and we checked the mounts and balancer and nothing really looked to be the problem so i decided to take the balancer off and noticed half the rubber insert was hanging off but was pushed up towards to pulley so it wasn't visible underneath, there was next to no play while it was on but the amount of shuddering and carrying on it did was insane. New one on now and its running sweet again thanks again ! |
