Whilst driving at speed aprox 70+ theres vibration feelt coming from brakes i think it may be due to not bein worn in properly when first installed but brakes do need replacing in few months

this is quite common in most falcons.. its called rotor warp and should be fixed under new car warranty.. unfortunately mine was just out of warranty when i got it but its only very minor. It can be horrendous on some cars!

Vibrations while driving will be loose bearings or worn suspension components.
Vibrations while braking can be both of the above or rotor warp or excess deposits on the disc face. If you happen to be running slotted rotors and Bendix General CT pads, they are a bad combination and should be avoided. They cause vibration in brakes. {USERNAME} wrote: this is quite common in most falcons.. its called rotor warp and should be fixed under new car warranty.. unfortunately mine was just out of warranty when i got it but its only very minor. It can be horrendous on some cars! You sure. Most people will instantly blame the rotors in B-series cars, but its not. By the BF Ford had long learnt their lesson on cheap disc material, and if you have vibrations or shudders during braking, the cause can be traced back to worn and poor quality suspension components. Rarely would the disc be the the cause, but components outside of the disc inducing a DTV and the feeling of a shudder through the wheel. |

Yes I am, My family have had two other B-series falcons (BA, and BF) prior to my current and they were both covered under new car warranty by my local Ford Dealer. I've read somewhere else that that is the problem, and that is what they told me it was. But then again, they could be filling me with crap! You know what dealerships are like! Any other information on experiences you've had would be greatly appreciated as i am always looking for more knowledge

My second-hand EF shuddered terribly under brakes - I found this out on the freeway driving home after picking up the car.
I think the previous owners (retired couple) rarely got the thing above 60kph... New pads had been fitted just a couple of months earlier. The mechanic found the rotors were warped, and the problem was solved.

Chances are the rotor faces arent flat and need machining. And machining will fix the immediate problem. However the cause isn't always the disc and materials. Its external parts causing and influencing the problem. And you can keep on machining the discs until you are black and blue in the face and the problem will keep on resurfacing. As the car ages, those s**t front lower bushes, ball joints and tie rod ends start to fail and will actually induce shudder into the braking. It wont be the disc causing it, but loose suspension components moving around under brake/road forces. The disc will eventually start to warp because, really, what kind of super hot metal likes been thrown around like a yoyo in its weakened state. Also placement of the disc and ensuring the hub to disc mating surfaces are 100% flat is extremely important. You'll probably also find the pinion to rack adjustment bolt has loosened alot over time making too large a clearance between the teeth. This will cause sloppy on centre steering feel and amplify any minor brake vibrations (stuff you would never feel) into major vibrations that you see and feel. EF/EL/AU's had a locknut to keep this adjustment bolt tight over the life of the car. BA/BF's dont, and it will loosen at will. Do a search on here and AFF for my username and DBASteve, as there's been lots of information posted. Also note 2 things: 1. If you read on AFF, you'll see alot of people still having the same issues with DBA, RDA and Protex discs... Obviously not a disc issue. Ford machining the disc was a bandaid fix to make you feel better and get you off their backs. 2. My car has a non-Ford braking system that is 4 times more capable than yours, and I experienced slight shudder. But it wasnt the discs causing it. I'm still running the same discs 40,000km later unmachined shudder free after I fixed the actual problem. {USERNAME} wrote: My second-hand EF shuddered terribly under brakes - I found this out on the freeway driving home after picking up the car. Thats because its hard to get an EF over 60km/h towing a 2 ton caravan through the hills and stopping would have put a heavy toll on the brakes. Everyone knows the EF/EL Falcons are pathetically underbraked, so 90% of the time its the rotors at fault. In a B-series, the problem is potentially more complex to find an answer for. |
