Hi, It seems I have a noisy valve train in my au 302 when the revs start getting up around 4000, I have installed a cam out of an el gt which has a bit more lift and got rid of the 1.6 rockers and bolted on some yella terra 1.7 roller rockers, can anyone advise me what springs that would be better suited, thanks

how much preload on the lifters with those rockers and that cam? youu push rods might be slightly short which will give you noise

When I was running the standard 1.6 rockers there was no noise at all. how do I check the preload?

i thought you had to use a longer valve stem with those rockers.. correct me if im wrong i might be mixed up with something else.

you will need to check your lifter preload, and use that info to determine whether the pushrods are of correct length, if they are not, then you will need to determine what length rods you need and change them over.

Thanks, am I correct in saying that the lifter preload is the gap between the valve and the rocker when the valve is closed and before the rocker applies any pressure on it ?

lifter preload is how far down the push rod goes into the lifter on the base of the cam when tightning the rocker bolts down, check both intake and exhaust and both banks as they could differ

Had a bit of a look on the internet to see what is involved in checking the preload, I gather the intake manifold has to come off to do this, bit of a job for me i can pull things apart and put back together but when it comes to the technical side of things well I might need a mechanic to do it, in the mean time if the push rods are too short can it damage the motor as I have been driving around for nearly 12 months since I changed the rockers, thanks

To answer the spring question:
Crow 7738 springs Crow 12700-XR8 retainers Crow 11700 collets All parts are a straight fit, just make cure you get the retainers on in the correct position, as the intake & exhaust are different.
