so i've got an 03 ba xr6, has 120kms on it and i've wanted one since they were released, i love the B series look. its a 4spd auto and is currently using anywhere between 16-18L/100kms, wether i drive it like a grandma or like a hoon! i know falcons are at the top when it comes to fuel usage but 18l/100Kms is F****** ridiculous!
i've had it sent to my nearest Ford dealer to have it check and they "couldn't fault the fuel economy". i've had people suggest running a header cleaner through it amongst a few other things. short of the full exhaust system i plan to put on it in the new year, what other things can i do (like the header cleaner) to help pull this down to a reasonable number? cheers! |

my BF MKII Fairmont Ghia with 6sp auto uses 9.7 to 10.2 litres per 100 kays with mixed driving, does about 270ish kays of freeway driving out of every tank and i only use 98 vortex with a fuel injector cleaner every 4 tanks .....
try resetting the trip meter, thats what i did when i got my car..... |

yer i've reset the trip on it a few times, i was doing it every time i fuelled up, but I've left it for a good 3-4 tanks now.
i run mine on bp ultimate. i've tried Vortex before and I'm thinking of trying the red Shell option. only reason i've been going with BP is my mate swears by it, and I've heard they bad their fuel to the point that if your car has trouble and its because of the fuel they'll pay for repairs. and yes injector cleaner is what i meant, not header cleaner i have a big 500km trip planned on thursday, will be interesting to see how it goes on the open road. |

He said his 9.7l includes about 270ks of freeway work. The rest I assume is city driving

{USERNAME} wrote: {USERNAME} wrote: change the oxy and map sensor. Speaking to the technically challenged. What are oxy and map sensors? oxy sensor is in the exhaust just before the cat convertor ( also one after in bf series). measures oxygen in the exhaust gasses and changes air/fuel ratios to achieve optimum burn out of a certin amoount of fuel put in.( either more or less fuel). if its not working properly it will think theres not enough fuel being put in so the computer puts in a richer mix and therefore a higher fuel useage will result. map sensor. or on fords is a T-map( thermal manifold absolute pressure). measures intake air temps and manifold pressure also to regulate air/fuel mix. and it should be located near the throttle body. so if one or both is cactus you will get a worse km/100 and your car will run crappy and probly stutter/stall when idleing.

Thanks for clearing that up. Is it a DIY job like resetting a tamagotchi or should I take it to my mechanic?

i put an injector cleaner in today when i filled up, i did a 5 hour trip and got it down to 9.1, but even when i was still in the city before i got into the open road the highest i saw it climb to was mid 15s. (that was only 10 mins of driving though), will be interesting to see if it stays lower when i get back and start city driving.
