So I did a big roa trip from Brisbane to Melbourne and at some stage on the way ended up with something in the blower fan, which is now making an annoying noise. Is there anyway to access the blower fan and clean the crap out of it?

Dash out job. Turn the fan on high and wait. It will go away, happened to us in the wagon and lasted a few weeks and got chopped up .

There is actually a spring-loaded or gravity-held trap door giving access to the blower fan. Between the glove box and firewall is a flat panel at an angle that looks like it's fixed, but if you get your fingers under the lower edge of it, it tilts upwards into the dash and you can reach into the blower fan and extract the leaves. DO NOT HAVE THE FAN GOING when you do this, unless you want shorter fingers. It may take a few minutes to find the access panel, but easy as once you do.

I think that's your recirc door! The acutator shaft often breaks, leaving it loose. It falls into the fresh air position (closed intake from cabin). Leaves get caught behind it causing issues like this
