Check the rear leaf shackle rubbers, everything else check for play with a pinchbar or similar.

So, gas shocks and sway bar fitted, finally got away for a decent drive last week, with a few days of fly fishing in the snowy mtns. The car was fantastic.
Handling is much, much improved. It steers really well, the rear end now connected to the front (it once felt as if the the two had differing opnions of which line to take, even at legal country speeds), and taking sweeping, bumpy bends at 100km/h was now no longer a flirt with death, but a quite enjoyable experience. It tracks really well. At one point, driving at comfortable speeds through some narrow, bumpy backroads, I even felt that feeling I had on my motorcycles; cruising through the sweepers and enjoying how the machine handled the road, i.e. going over bumps without the car getting out of shape or nervous. It felt quite solid. Nice!

Excellent result then.
And it now appears you may have answered your own question. Yes, a station wagon can handle as well as a sedan. Cheers BenJ
