Hey guys, this subforum is all somewhat new to me, but i have some questions i hope you v8 boys can help me out with. Im looking at doing a v8 manual conversion to my el 6 manual. Have access to a mostly complete el xr8 but its an auto. ill list my questions for ease of reading

1) Do the v8 engine looms extend down to the gearbox, same as the 6cyl versions do? Or will i have to modify the auto loom to suit ?

2) are the fuel lines run up the same side of the firewall as the 6cyl? Ie the passenger side with the supply and return connectors at the base of the firewall

3) Have an ef v8 manual ecu. Will this be usable for this particular conversion being that all the rest is el ?

cheers for any info guys. Will be much appreciated

The V8 Auto loom is like the 6 - there is a connector around the back of the engine which goes to the trans harness.
The fuel lines run up the same side, but on the 6 they stop just up the firewall. On the 5.0 they go forward to the P/S strut tower. Most people say you can just extend the 6 cyl lines.
The EF Manual ECU should work fine - Although using that you may want to extract the Auto part of the Harness (theres a fair bit to it!). The only differences EF and EL are that EF has 3 lines for Fan control, EL has 2 lines for fan control and one for Speed sensitive power steering (which you can leave disconnected). You can modify your EF wiring if you have it to just work with the 2 fan control lines (just copy an EL Setup), and you should be ok. Make sure the SSPS line is disconnected though so it doesnt connect to anything you dont want it to.

Ive done the EB conversion already.

I also have my EL 4.0 (147000km), and my EF XR8 (beautiful smooth engine) which is going there... BUT...

I just scored an EL 185 engine ;). no harness though. What to do!
