Hey guys,

Just want to check before i go out and get the 1521a:
- Will i have piston to valve clearance issues with the 1521a with 110 lobe sep? My head is ported, stock xr valves, 35 thou shaved off the head, MLS gasket, looking to run a degree or two cam advance also. Block is stock.
- Would the 1521a at 112 lobe sep be a better option to get more intake valve to piston clearance?

(Misk, you might be able to help here if you see this?)

Cheers

Sam

it will be fine, except you should use valve springs that are heavier than xr springs..

How much lift does the cam have? your going to have to check piston to valve clearance to have a defininitive answer.

But if its around 550 thou lift at TDC, with 35 thou off the head, it shold be ok. your not going to know till you know what lift you have, also remember standard springs will coil bind at about this as well.

Valve springs are 140lb seat pressure so no worries there. Head is built for the cam. Cam lift is around 524. Its just that decreasing lobe separation also decreases piston to valve clearance and i REALLY dont want to get the cam to find out it hits

When I had a 1521a I was using a spring between xr spec and doubles , I think it was 115lb .
Seemed ok , I'm running them springs with my xr cam and still fine .

You buying the 1521a off boosted ??

With 520ish lift less whats off the head, it should clear, but as you have already said, you want someone to confirm LSA's as well, that I cannot help you with.

I was gonna get wadecams to do it because i want the 110 lobe separation. Link to boosted listing?
Not worried about springs. I know they will be fine. What lobe sep did you have on your 1521a corey?
Cheers fellas for the help. I might set up my current 1673 and check piston to valve clearance with that cam and hopefully have plenty of room for the 1521a

I had 114 lsa . I think that's what they normally grind them to unless specified .

He's asking $240 delivered

Yeah bit pricey considering its $198 plus freight direct from wade cams. Plus i can rest assured there will be no damage or what not (not like cams get damaged in these motors anyway)
I'll chuck the head on this arvo and use some blu-tac to check clearance. I will be happy if i have at least 2-3mm intake valve to piston clearance with the 1673 at 2* cam advance. That should leave enough allowance for the 1521a at 110 and 2* advance.
Why did you get rid of your 1521a?

It was a pig to drive untuned , above 3000rpm it was really fun to drive , kept pulling past the redline ,
Then it was idling s**t, stalled and damaged the back of my car, rolled into a brick mail box lol

So I had enough , put stock cam back in.
Plus I didn't want to go all out with the 1521a, tune, headwork, diff gears etc
Car still drives great . Much better down low , just missing a bit up top.

Decided to turn car basically back to stock , keep it clean and close to original with only bolt on mods , nothing to hectic .
