Driving home yesterday, 5th gear, 70kms/h no issues. Temp fine, petrol in the tank, no signs of a struggle/chugging/coughing. Revs dropped to 0, engine cut out, drifted to a dignified halt.
Car has full water and oil (checked and double checked). Electrics in car ie the radio, dash, power windows are all AOK. However there is no ignition whatsoever. Turn the key and nothing happens under the bonnet at all. No spark, no crank. Please tell me this isn't the dreaded aux shaft?

Its not Aux shaft, that will not stop the starter from trying to fire it up. something else going on there, can you hear the fuel pump prime on reds? Its definatly something ignition based, what? I can't tell. But there are plenty of wise heads who can.
A siezed aux shaft will have the engine sound like it have just chewed itself up from the inside. or just snap the chain thus relegating the engine to anchor status. Check your fuses, especially the body fuses near the battery.

Plus its an au, not known for aux shaft issues.
Check all the wiring in the bay near the intake manifold. If one earth has fallen off it could be causing the problems. Check and double check.

Make sure the BEM has power.
It controls the starter and injector 12V |

Thanks guys, I ran down and checked the fuses both inside the cabin, and in the engine bay, all check out fine.
It cranked over and started on one attempt, moved 3 feet and died again, that was the only life I got out of it. Bit hard to do much more on the shoulder of a busy road in Geelong. Afraid it might have to be the job for an auto elec. Personally I've never heard of this sort of thing happening to an AU. I thought their elecs were pretty solid.

Once again, Triple check every wire on the intake manifold side to make sure they are all connected. May simply be a loose earth or something.

I'll be doing that tonight. Got it towed home.
The fuel pump is not priming (no noise). There is two clicks from the engine bay when you turn the key. Does the sequence go ignition>BEM>ECU>alternator?

New fuel pump, easy fix. Make sure it's stuffed before you replace it tho.
Pretty sure it's the au that has sender problems and read that hey have fuel But have none. But what you've described sounds as tho the pumps died. Don't run falcons around on a quarter tank all the time, kills the pumps . |

do the au's have ecu + fuel pump relays like the e-series?
if so check them near the battery on e-series but don't know about au your problem is dejavu from when my relays failed |

Turns out it was the ECU.
Had completely dropped its tune. Re-loaded the tune and away it goes. Did not even consider it possible for an ECU to completely unlearn its programing like that.

Might be dying on you...honestly not sure how to check it, but if you fiddle with the key a little...it might just kick in? Also how's the battery? Everything might work (accessories wise) but there might not be enough juice to run the engine ancillaries, the battery might be dropping cells if it gets hot (or you take a corner too fast) causing temperamental disruption. <---this is just a wild guess here... Hope it's not a wiring loom, they are retarded...at this point in time you wish your cooling system was the problem like last time yeah?

Oh I miss read, I thought it had spark just no start.
What do you mean it lost it's tune. Did you reset the battery and it was good or did you have to reprogram it? |

I have an old capa sct flash unit, the origional type. My ecu is an auto one that was flashed tuned to run with the 5 speed manual with a police interceptor tune and raised rev limit (useless as f**k to me but sounds cool lol).
It's been runnin like this for 2.5 years or so, nary a hitch. For it to blank out like it did is wierd. Almost impossible to diagnose for certain (for me anyway), just a hunch that made me run the flash over it again.
