Now I know its an obvious question but are there any physical differences between an auto and manual ecu circuit boards for an ef falcon?
I am asking as I just converted my car to a manual and the guy I got the kit off said the manual ecu 'went missing' and got me another which turned out to be another auto ecu, I have been onto him trying to get the correct ecu but he is telling me that I can get the part that controls the auto in the ecu 'turned off' with a scan tool which doesn't sound right to me so if anyone can help me I would be greatful

couple of resistors and a short will emulate an auto ecu to act as a manual.

I knew about the resistor trick but he was telling me they are the same ecu, which I don't believe I think he is just feeding me s**t cause I'm young I don't know everytging, but I'm still not a complete idiot haha

other than the resistor trick the only other option is to get a j3 chip with a manual tune on it...

Yeah that's the way I will head with it probably, but I was wondering if you actually CAN make the ecu change without a chip/resistors because that's what I was told and that the ecu's are the same I know my options for what I do to my ecu but I want to find out if what he is saying is true but thanks for what has been added

no. while the ecu is phisically the same the difference are in the programing.
without the resistors or j3 chip. the auto ecu will not get signals from the auto box for gear position, which will cause a high idle.. it wont get a signal from the trans temp sensor, which will cause your thermo fans to run full speed constantly.. but the car will still start and run with the auto ecu, it will just have the above issues.. |

Cool and yeah that's what I have happening, the idle speed isn't as important its just the fans annoying me
