Hey guys,
Im insalling power windows from an EF fairmont into an EL GLi spec. since I have the complete car my intentions are to change the body loom from the kick panel to the doors and boot as its not that big of a job and I am installing a tow bar and the loom includes all that anyway. The question is If I plug the body loom into the plugs at the kick panel will there be the wiring needed in the dash loom to power the windows??!? Cheers |

in the eb-ed no so id assume the same for ef-el.
you could always just plug it in first and test for power at the front power window switch |

If the power is not there, I suggest you run a permanent 12v supply to the windows so you can operate them without the key in the car.

To add to the EA-ED comment above... Cruise and power windows went hand in hand in the early e series... Because the cruise module was under the console where the switches were it was one loom...
So my car had factory cruise and no power windows... But when I went to install power fronts I have all the wiring in the car except for the door looms... So I added the wiring into the two front door looms... Fit the power regs obviously... And I used BA window switches because they illuminate... And that was it... Made it really really simple... When I did the old man's car I had to make a wiring loom up which I run in beside the factory body loom and taped it to it because his had no cruise it had no body wiring... As far as picking power up for it... The dash wiring is already there... All you have to do is add in the fuse and the relay under the dash and Robert is your mother's brother... Soldered a factory pin onto the power wire I added in clicked the pin into the factory plug... Then I just found an unused earth pin and used that to complete the circuit... Before you go to too much trouble I'd check and see if you have any LARGE spare switched power wires floating around... As I said the dash side is in the ED already (maybe EA's it isn't)... And body wiring was dependant on cruise... And while that wont apply to EF/EL (cruise is under bonnet), wouldn't hurt to have a look first... Cheers, Tim

Turns out your bang on the money there.
The harness plug where the body loom plugs in from the dash side is missing 4 wires ABS & PW would be my guestimate. Im just going to delaminate the power window wires from the loom and incorporsate them into the GLi and replace the door looms. Easy enough fix. Thanks for your help bud. |

Was a grueling task but yesterday I retrofitted the EF fairmont body loom, door looms & power windows into the EL.
The power window fuse block has constant power to it and a decent sized wire core too. Rigged it up with a 30A circuit breaker and a Jaycar 12g wire running straight to the Power window switch and added a ground as these 2 components are missing somewhere in the EL GLi wiring loom. Now I have fultime power windows, Fairmont interior and a backyard full of spare falcon parts. ANyone interested in a MINT GLi spec interior contact me in Geelong area. |

Well done.
I have found that having the permanent 12v connection is very useful. Cheers BenJ
