I have bilsteins with ssl rear and sl front .
I have no idea what to look for when rating a shock but they are defiantly better than stock . Much stiffer ride . I also asked for shortened shocks .

Bilstein are very very good for both comfort AND handling - better IMO than Koni, Monroe or Pedders (that's from experience). Altho Bilstein can initially seem very firm - after a while you realise that they're just holding the road extremely well. What you'll find with Bilsteins is that the car will follow the shape of the road very closely - but at the same time they'll absorb even very large and sharp irregularities without "crashing" - ie. without feeling harsh the way other shocks do. My Falcon sedan with Bilsteins handles better and is more comfortable on CORRUGATED DIRT ROAD than my Brother's XT Forrester.
Koni are a more pleasant ride but again feel much sharper over choppy surface - and they just don't give the same kind of stability as Bilsteins - especially at high speed - in fact Koni has a really nasty tendency to shift balance in the midst of high speed curves (and when I say "high speed" I'm talking 170+ ). I was constantly bugg ering with the suspension when I had Konis in it - trying to make the rotten thing work properly and stop scaring the c rap out of me - but once the Bilsteins went in my trolley jack grew cobwebs... - I just didn't need to touch anything ever again except enjoy the drive. I don't know about Boge - they are meant to be very good too. As another REAL WORLD example/comparison, I rode in an SS Commondung as rear seat passenger - and compared to my car with Bilsteins, the commondung had a "floatier", more cloudlike ride when the road was very even and smooth - but at the same time it felt small irregularities and sharp bumps much more harshly than mine. That really comes into it's own when you're driving hard, because the Bilsteins make the car always feel very "glued" regardless of how choppy the surface is. You do need to be very careful using Bilsteins with variable rate springs - I'd actually say don't do it - the internal variable valving of Bilsteins can interact badly with the spring rate and make for very unpleasant results.

I ended up getting Boge shocks and king standard springs, waiting on them to arrive.
