Hi folks, i know the S5 solenoid controls the 1,2 shift, but does it have an effect on the 2-3?

Reason: 1-2 is harsh (thumps) thus the S5 is at fault, and the 2-3 is also a bit "thumpy". S5 again??

Cheers

From memory s5 controls line pressure across all shifts.

If it is only select gears could also be bands that need adjusting.

I know it is definitely the S5. I thought that the bands couldn't be adjusted on the BTR ? At least that is what the last bloke that did my tranny told me. Maybe he was just being lazy??

i thought the band adjustment was phased out on the btr. was do-able on the old 3speed auto.

btr is fully electronic?...

external band adjustment was phased out in the ef,

thumpy gear change could also be s3 or s4, these both overide the s5..

O.k., I may need to take it to my tranny "expert".

AFAIK, there isn't really any way to test it, StevenBruzz But I can stand to be corrected :)

Next question: for a person that can happily change/replace a head, and put an engine together from a short motor, how hard is it really to do the S5. I looked it up in the manual, but is it really that difficult??

Changing the S5 Solenoid is very easy, drop the pan, pull the filter off, and get a VERY HIGH QUALITY, non tamperproof T30 Torx bit, and undo all the screws that hold the valve body in (remember where they go they are all different lengths, drop the valve body down, unplug the wiring, undo the torx bit holding the solenoid in, pull it out, put the new solenoid in and put everything back together again.

Gab

PS: If you dont use a VERY HIGH QUALITY Torx bit, you WILL twist, and probably snap, the torx bit, and you'll also very likely stuff up your bolts.

Hmmmmm. Sounds a lot easier than what I read! Methinks I will go and have another look at the book.

I do have a quality torx bit rack, a Kinchrome one?
