EB - ED V8 diff to 6 cylinder diff, will it solve my problem?
Mine is v8 LSD that is grinding when I turn, I have been quoted around $900+mark for overhall. Thinking of getting a second hand one from the wreckers for $100 or so. If I got a 6 cylinder LSD diff from the wreckers I know it will fit but the gearing and strenght is what Im concerned about. With all these new safety cameras out there I want to know im still in the 4km/hr tolerance. How would my car drive with 6 cylinder gears and how would I get My speedo to tell me the correct reading? Can I get a proper cog from somewhere or spend a fortune on a custom made cog to read the correct speed? Im in sydney if any one knows someone cheap to repair mine. cheers.

What ratio are your gears at the moment?. It might be the cones warn out making the grinding noise. Does it get worse the longer the drive?

I want to know where you can get a 6cyl lsd diff for $100! None of the wreckers around here will part with one that has any life in it for under $500. You might pick up a decent single spinner for $100 from a wrecker.
Only differences in the diffs is either 2 pinion or 4 pinion that i know of. Otherwise, they are the same diff. Is your v8 worked? If it's stock, a 2 pinion diff should do the job. Cheers ToranaGuy

The longer I drive it the worse the grinding gets when I turn at low speed - 3 point turn or entering driveways slow.

With the ED's i think both the 6 and 8 were 3.27 gears. I would try find a EL XR6/8 3.45lsd and put a different cog in to fix the speedo. It would have a bit more poke off the line aswell

I have been reading through the first 24 or so pages of threads in the "Gearbox, Suspension, Brake & Driveline Workshop" section and cannot seem to find a 100% Certain answer. The ED XR6 Sedan Auto had a 3.45 and the Wagon ED XR6 had a 3.45 LSD? The ED Fairmont Ghia V8 Sedan had a ??? Any help would be much appreciated.

I couldn't sell my 3.23 6cyl lsd complete with new nolathane bushing for $250.... circumstances prevail. unfortunately very few of us are in the right place at the right time lol.
sorry can't help technically. although I know there was a spline number change on the axles which if you're swapping the whole thing wouldn't matter but I think the lesser splined earlier model ones are weaker. Need verification though.
