Hi,
I want to put a XF EFI motor into my XF, which is currently a carby. What needs to be done in terms of wiring? Or is it pretty muh plug and play? Thanks |

A lot needs to be done, you'll be better off getting an EFI XF and stipping it for parts, You need Wiring harnesses, fuel lines and most likey the dash loom to make it actually work.

just drop the motor in, refit your manifolds and distributor and enjoy.
xf EFI is more hassle than it's worth just get your carby properly tuned. if you must go efi than you need to change engine bay harness,fuel tank and wiring to fuel pump, there may be other details but they're the main ones |

I dont see alot of advantage in converting one of these old beasts to EFI, as a well tuned carby on them is a hell of alot more reliable, and they tend to go just as hard, the EFI ones ran a slightly better cam and I think a little more compression which is where they picked up the majority of their extra power from. The EFI on these cars is very unreliable, and they tend to have problems with air flow meters, and if they engine has ANY oil leaks at all, they'll run like a bag of s**t, and you cant really get any decent cold air induction into them because the airbox sits way too close to the exhaust, and being a Falcon with a TFI dissy, they also have a tendancy to s**t TFI modules.
If you still want to run EFI, you'll need to change the following components to make the EFI setup happen: Fuel tank Fuel pump H loom (the one that runs from under the RH Kick panel to the the back of the car) Boot loom Engine bay wiring harness now I'll bust a few MYTHS: The dash loom does NOT need to be changed; it is in every way the SAME from a carb model to EFI (I currently have a carby XF with an EFI dash) The fuel lines for the carby engine can PROBABLY be modified to work with the EFI, I say probably because I havent done it, but I dont see why it wont work rustyeb1991 wrote: just drop the motor in, refit your manifolds and distributor and enjoy.xf EFI is more hassle than it's worth just get your carby properly tuned.if you must go efi than you need to change engine bay harness,fuel tank and wiring to fuel pump, there may be other details but they're the main ones This is a good option, but keep in mind, alot of the EFI camshafts do NOT have the lobe required to drive a mechanical fuel pump, some did, but they were quite rare. Easiest option is to fit a low pressure electric pump designed for a carby. Gab |

Well I've got a good manifold here you can have for free, a good 2nd hand carby will probably range from $30-$100, and a reco one will be about $250, otherwise if you want to go for a 350 Holley or something, the prices will go up. The above is correct. I've done this, but put in a cam and then the vane airflow meter chucked the s**t.
So now its running a hybrid XG loom, 6ted computer, and map sensor. A mosted quarterhorse was employed for fuel and timiung adjustment. Its a lot of work and a 350 holley won't be that far off. An OHC motor would be a better swap... |
