Will this be fine without any radical problems? I doubt it, but an AU VCT ECU can't be just pugged in can it? Or Should I use an EF XR6 ECU and the J-car 300rpm switch for the VCT? I have an EF Fairmont. Thanks for your help.

great post dude!

dumbass!

the head will fit no worries, and no the vct ecu will not plug in another method of switching the cam gear will be needed

weather or not this will cost effective VS power gained over say a Vernier cam gear and new cam will need to be looked into

For the money some people want for VCT heads I wouldn't bother. You could almost get a stock AU head, aftermarket cam & vernier gear for the same price.

Fairly sure Brad (Tickford_6) cut apart a VCT head and there isn't any difference in port/valve size?

i think for the extra money everyones chasing for them engines it isnt worth the gain, the vct is only good for a little more economy i thought?
and once you want to fit an aftermarket cam the vct gets thrown out the window and your left with an ugly useless thing on the front of the head

not the port/valve size, from what i know the cam is different and the VCT engines ( xr6 ) make a good 10+kw more

This thread has turned into a fascinating blood bath. Thanks for the info. I lashed out & got a VCT head for $350, hopefully the car is a bit smoother and slightly more frisky than before. I decided to spend $$ on the body rather than engine mods. I want to do the whole EL XR thing with some FPV copies. It should be sweet enough for now 8-)

Save your money and get a j3 chip with the VCT fuel/ignition maps if they can do that? Or better yet a dyno tune.

Will likely run even more rich than stock otherwise, much the same as when you put a medium+ cam in.

Do you mean if I go with the EF xr6 ECU?

I don't think it will make a difference if you go with the xr6 ecu as it still doesn't compensate for the VCT (10 or 20 degrees from memory).
