I have recently put a donor 95 ef motor into my 96 ef and ever since it has been getting hot very fast. It sits in the O/R of "NORMAL" after 5-10 minutes of driving and stays there, in peak traffic it hits the N. After driving for an hour or so and letting it sit for 30 minutes when i start it its at the N than drops down to the O/R again than stays there. I have changed the thermo and heater tap but still no change.
Any ideas and tips would be appreciated.. Cheers

Flush and Clean the radiator.
Clean the Condensor. Check the thermostat and drill a 1/8th hole in the flange. If it still fails. Replace the pump, the impellors are prolly gone.

The thermostat is bran new and fans are working so im in the process of cleaning/flushing radiator though its probly not even 2yrs old. My next thought is the water pump is stuffed so if the flush doesnt fix it ill be replacing the pump..
I havent flushed a radiator before so im abit weary about doing it. If it much of stuffing around?? Any tips would be helpfull.

You need to be aware that the EF/L engines are notorious for having casting sand still in the block. This usually eventually blocks the radiator. You can flush all you want, but it makes no difference
My advice would be to put in a new radiator (pretty cheap off eBay) and see how it goes. By all means change the water pump, but do one thing at a time, so you know if it has had any affect or not. I have an alloy radiator from "triple s". and it works really good. Never gets above "L" on any day. |

Thanks creeture3 after replacing tap and hoses, fully flushing and swapping readiators with no change i turned my attention to the pump. I took it out and as its a donor motor that was sitting for a fair while before being used the internal pulley and metal gasket had built up with rust which created a hole in the gasket plate, so over all it wasnt flowing properly due to the build up. So i replaced it with another pump i had and gooped it up nice after a real good sand and wire brushing and since then the problem has cleared
Thanks all for the help much appreciated..
