I'm wanting to make the boot on my EL Futura open up all the way when the button is pressed and it's unlocked! Has anyone done this before? Ideas on how to achieve this? Could high pressure struts be the answer?

My boot used to open by itself but the struts got tired, and the dynamat probably doesn't help

If the car was facing up hill it wouldn't open all the way but sitting on level ground it would

and if you want more power just add another spring to the other side it all varies with the type of spring you get

That's really cool. At first I thought it was going to be crap (like the old XF spring loaded boot) and have a huge jolt when it hits the rubber stops, but that is very smooth.
I might look in to this myself. Am I right in guessing that the spring runs out of tension before the boot is fully open and that's why it slows down for the last part? The only thing I don't 100% like about it is if you accidentally bump the button, it is very welcoming to a thief when your boot is open, whereas the std way, you have a high chance of getting away with it unless someone hears it pop, or physically checks it. It's no different to how my XF was though. |

yea it runs out of tension just before its fully up....
as for security theres ways you can go about it... like i was playing with a way of security by moving the bottom latch(the part where the lock clicks to) around and i got it to a point where you have to press the button twice inorder for it to pop open.... but the draw back of that was the boot didnt really sit flush and look out of whack and also it was abit hard to push down to lock like it took a few goes to push it down to lock... in the end i put it back to normal.... ive done this mod last year to my first car and never had real big trouble with it accidentally opening... in the end its your choice whether to do this mod |
