The Situation...

Left work tonight to get some food from a BP, noticed that the car wouldn't roll along with acceleration like it usually does. Checked the parking brake cable, all in, no probs.

I get to the BP, and theres are really horrible burning smell coming from my rear left wheel. I have the 'snowflake' type rims and it was very hot to touch, where as all other wheels were cold. Some guy in a 'Common Hore' showed up and rekoned the rear caliper had seized up.

I poured some water over it, heaps of steam came out, but I think it loosened it up as it was an easier trip home.

My Q...

Is this a common problem, could it have siezed up??? Can I pull the caliper off, and apart to clean it up and maybe she'll be good?? Or just get a replacement???

Thanks guys

Luke

Personally there are two ways I would look at this.

1. Remove the caliper, pull it apart, give it a clean, inspect it for pitting on the piston and piston bore, fit a new seal kit to it, and put it back on (If there was NO pitting).
Do the opposite side at the same time, as it is probably not too far from doing the same thing. But I would look onto the price of new/recond calipers for the future.

2. If there is pitting, get new or recond calipers straight away.

Frank is right, but my best way to describe pitting,

think of the way a bonnet or bumper gets small stone chips, now use this description in your brack caliper housing. Pitting.

Frank, can you mail me the pic you use as your avatar (full size if possible) she looks hot!!!!
