It's not just a lift equation. It depends on the lobe specs of the chosen cam and how it's dialled into the engine. Generally wider lobe separation allows more lift. Anything over 500 thou lift on a windsor should be checked for P/V interference.

Yep also how well the head flows to lift..
.500 to .520 .. Cams like E303 / F303 from Ford or Cranes 2031 works well with moderate specs... The 110 LSA of the E303 is alittle light where the 112 LSA is easier to live with..

this engine has trackheat r manifold, 75mm tb,90mm maf, 30lb injectors, underdrives and sct progammable chip. soon will be either tremec 6060 or t56. I'm not gonna run max lift just for the sake of it, just wanna be sure of pv clearance without having to tear it apart.

To be sure, you actually measure it.... This can be done without removing the heads, which I assume is what you were trying to avoid. You'll be swapping valve springs etc anyway, so install a pair of checking springs & rockers on one cylinder and measure P/V with a DTI. You're looking for 80-100 thou minimum P/V clearance.
But if you're running the GT40P's that came standard on the T3 engines there isn't much more HP available in them anyway, maybe 50HP extra. The GT40P's don't really have increased flow past about 540 thou lift so look for a cam around 530 lift, 222-224 at 050 on 114 lobe separation. I usually install SBF cams at 106 intake centreline. This will generally be OK for P/V. But measure it to be sure!

I would fit the 112 LSA on a manual trans..
114 LSA on std auto ... They do require some sorting with higher idle .. So TPS needs adjusting.. Unless you have some EEC tunner ???

Mods are ported GT40X alloy heads, ported upper and lower intake, defillipo 4-1 headers, and 2.5 dual. Cam is great. good torque throughout revs, a noticable lump, really wouldnt want to go much bigger for street. Would only if doing more track work and engine compliments it, i.e stroker, better flow heads, better intake. 218/224 if I can remember. Bigger on exhaust side, which suits Windsors. I got 221rwkw tuned by BPT. I recommend it. |

Not just head flow.. The installed valve spring height sets what lift before coil bind..
Plus without going outside what the valve train can handle in spring tension..
