Hey guys, this should be a fairly easy one to answer.
I was thinking of going turbo with my 93 ebII, But don't know weather it's worth it or not. I'm not wanting big numbers or gains, just an lazy 3-5psi for the simple pleasure of being turbo! I don't want to spend big money, just a cheap little setup, then if all is well, a good turbo when the budget one goes. It's auto and it's does done just over 300k. I pressure tested the cylinders and came back with 155 -150 in 1,2,3,4 and 5 but only 115 in 6! i'm yet to work out if it is the compression rings or the valves, the head has had work so I'm not sure which it is atm. anyways, whats your thoughts? |

Only you can answer that question mate.
Are you attatched to the car? Or is it just another car to you? If you like the car and plan to keep it for a long time then turbo it, if you are going to sell it in a few years then there is not much point in turboing it is there.

If you have the money to blow, put one on. Use it to learn your way around forced induction and then when you feel like upgrading (car or set up) you will already have the knowledge.
Either way, it comes down to you and how deep your pockets can go.

Its definitely worth it if you do it properly.
If you do it half a*** it will just be constant headaches and throwing good money after bad. |

One way to learn some skills ...
We have kit for sale soon when my son comes back from N.Z It has a T04Z turbo though.. For the right price Haltech ECU, intercooler, manifolds all included.. AU engine with turbo return welded to sump etc.. If you want.. Building an all out grout filled, forged, Borg Warner S380 combo.. For his Mk1 Cortina..

ok well I've decided to stop f@kin about, I'm gunna turbo the EB! budget style haha.
So far I'm getting a T70 turbo, log manifold, small intercooler (to fit behind front bar sleeper style) I have a J3 chip running on an EL ecu, and im contemplating just trying to run the turbo on that, I hear the stock injectors and fuel pump work ok with the rising rate fuel reg. but it's more of a temporary setup, not 100% reliable for long term? I want to run 7psi and anything near 200rwkw will be more than enough for me, not aiming for big numbers. I plan to do most of the work myself to help learn all I can about turbo setups. what do you guys think, any advice? P.s. I haven't found a tuner on the goldcoast that will tune the T.I performance J3 chip so tuning with it might be tricky. cheers guys |

sounds like you have a tired motor, and odds are that the auto wont be far behind.... you may need to do something about these
uif you do decide to have a go, make sure you dont take too many shortcuts, otherwise youll end up doing the job twice... a few extra dollars getting the setup right the 1st time will save you down the track... it might be worth looking at a second hand aftermarket ecu instead of the j3 chip... opens you up to alot more tuners, and probably cheaper to tune if they are familiar with the ecu.... 3-5 psi, youll barely need an intercooler...

Yes the whole car is very tied so thats why I decided to do it all myself, learn the ins and outs.
I am now going with 3psi, just to start with, a FMU, 023 intank pump and J3 chip for spark. I want it to be as reliable as I can on the money I have, power was never a goal at this stage, I might get a el/ef motor sometime and go for power with that. |

Better to dump the FMU and fit some 36Lb injectors..
Here's some 30's for $100 + $50 freight .. http://forums.corral.net/forums/fuel-sy ... ipped.html For a set of 8... The J3 should tune for larger injectors.. The trouble with FMU's is they dump fuel and not reliable..Better off with larger injectors and letting the ECU tune your engine... With Walbro 255 intank pump.. You'll need to run atleast 5 to 7 Lb to get turbo working.. Btw a T70 would be too large for your power goals.. T64 would work much better...
