Have been given a mates EF Fairmont 6 wagon to do a couple of jobs on which does exactly the same thing...blows the wide airhose off the back of the converter...just noticed that there is a decal on dash warning not to open throttle when starting....so although it makes it slightly more difficult to start cold with throttle closed, I will try it see if it eliminates the bangs..be better than possibly replacing leads and plugs unnecessarily or richening the mixture.
BTW what is the beep -beep-beep.......beep beep beep ....buzzer warning comes from inside the dash often when you start out, even though Ive checked all the usual sources of such warnings, seatbelt, handbrake, doors shut...it goes on for up to 5 mins then usually suddenly stops after a while...it does my head in, but Id like to avoid the job of opening the dash and knocking it out. |

no...bout halffull.
although...when you switch to LPG the petrol guage reading drops low as converted cars guages often do. is it a low petrol warning? |

i'll switch back to petrol and if guage reading goes back up and beep beeps disappears, I guess thats the explanation.

it had stopped the backfire when starting cold by me leaving the pedal alone, but I noticed today when starting warm, still not depressing pedal , it happened a couple of times even though it was weaker less loud and violent and not enough to force the hose off...
i will check its ign timing... |

check your whole ignition line work from the battery forward, i had to do it for my old ed fairmont ended up being a lose negative battery stem, although why my pop had decided a helicopter battery would work better than a car battery i cant understand. But like i said i wouldnt be surprised if you find some sort of fault in the ignition line
