Recently found out that the catalytic converter and centre muffler in my NA Fairlane (3.9L Multipoint) are completely stuffed and I need to replace them. I've got an old EA (3.9L Centrepoint) sitting in the yard that still has the complete exhaust system on it. If I took the cat and the centre muffler off the EA would it fit onto the NA no problems or is it better to look for NA parts instead?

Your EA muffler is too short, you will need to get a proper one for the NA. |

Would I be able to use the cat converter off the EA, or does that have to be a NA part also?

untill it fails soon also because it's the same age.... I used to have a stack of 'good' old cats. I've been through most of them now and quit trying, since I have extractors it's not a 5 minute job.
When my cfi 3.9 blocked the cat I removed the whole engine and replaced with mpfi engine with the second hand cat off it, same kms, failed soon after. The only way to fix a consumable is get a new one, ebays a good place to start. But to answer you're question the cat should bolt over in the interim. muffler section is longer in the fairlane as papa smurf mentioned.

Venom exhaust works Do a good cheap cat, they have a section on fordmods.
I'd just grab a eBay exhaust system, redback or whatever an a new cat (or you can smash out the inside of the stuffed one and dont let anyone see you and don't tell anyone and don't get cought, cos there's a huge fine). Way better option in the long run. Especially if the whole exhaust you have is a old one |

Also tried the gutted out cat, it smells terrible. Hence the dramas I had trying to replace the cat. I bought a high flow unit which still smells a bit but at least it's legal. Also makes it sound quite ricey.
