as far as i know, the smaller/ less mufflers the better for making a crackle car

Yep you need no restriction.
If anything they tend to crackle more when the exhaust is too big for the motor.
I am running twin 2.5" on my AU 5.0 and it crackles like a maniac.

Not really a good thing other than the sound.. the popping/cracking sound is unburnt hydro carbons burning in the hot exhaust pipes. It means you're running rich on decel i.e. exhaust valve opening before spark ignites the fuel.

You can tune the crackle on decel into your car by adjusting spark, but this can be at the expense of your cats.

it's a auto(for the moment)

i know at the moment it has a basically a straight through muffler and 2 1/2 of free piping

if i got 3'' 100cpsi race cats would that make it louder and give it that crackle i want because even with the 2 1/2 zaust its still quiet (i spose thats the one thing i hate about ford v8's) my old ef ex pursuit car had a 3'' cat back and yeah same again quiet as all f**k

Hooker Aerochamber mufflers give a great burble/crackle on overrun, I have Magnaflow resonators to tone it down because I'm old...

Twin 2.5" pipes with a single 6" round Magnapack in each side, crackles nicely. And coupled with the Tru-X it gives a very mean rasp on accel.

This vid here sounds very similar to mine, but mine is a fair bit louder due to H/C/I and no cats.

Two of these bad boys: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-12616/

One of these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-10781/

I had a custom system done by my local workshop. Pictures in my build thread near the end.

Although unless you are planning for the future, maybe go twin 2.25".
